What We Can Treat with Lasers to Boost Your Oral Health

Posted on 7/26/2021 by Lincoln Smiles
What We Can Treat with Lasers to Boost Your Oral HealthLasers have been utilized in many different applications. We are familiar with their use in eye surgery and to play CD's and DVD's. However, laser technology transformed dentistry in the 1990s. Lasers are used in more than 20 dental procedures with significant results. Lasers cut or vaporize tissue by delivering energy in the form of light.

Applications for Lasers in Dentistry

Patients who have periodontal disease are candidates for laser treatments. Before the onset of laser therapy, antibiotics were commonly prescribed to patients with periodontal disease. With laser therapy we can access and remove gum tissue around the root of the tooth which may be inflamed or problematic. Lasers target diseased tissue and eradicate it. We also remove tartar and plaque, which tends to congregate below the gumline. We can do these procedures without a general anesthetic. With the onset of laser technology, we can offer alternative treatments to traditional procedures.

Lasers can also be used to remove a biopsies in your mouth. The small piece of tissue can then be examined in the laboratory to determine if it is cancerous or not. Lasers can also be used to remove lesions. This is a fast way to remove tissue. Patients tend to heal quickly as well. In some circumstances, lasers can also be used to relieve the discomfort associated with canker sores.

If your teeth need whitening, lasers can be useful. The laser becomes a heat source to enhance the effect of tooth whitening material.

Lasers are a great tool in our dentistry practice. We can get fantastic results in a timely manner. Often our patients do not feel any discomfort from these procedures. We would welcome a chance to discuss with you the advantages of using laser treatments. Please stop into our office today for a consultation.
