Why Does One Tooth Sometimes Not Line Up with the Rest When You Wake Up
Posted on 12/7/2020 by Lincoln Smiles
Misaligned teeth can lead to major oral health problems if they are not treated immediately. Overcrowded teeth can promote tooth decay, gum disease, and cavities. And teeth with excessive space between them can cause problems with biting, chewing, and speech. Teeth that are not properly aligned after the patient wakes up are often a sign of a more serious underlying issue.
Bruxism is an oral health condition where the patient grinds their teeth, often during their sleep. Bruxism has a variety of symptoms, including worn teeth, jaw pain, and headaches. In addition, the constant grinding can skew teeth alignment. When teeth become misaligned due to bruxism, our office will recommend a two-part solution. Our team will recommend corrective orthodontia to fix the misalignment. Our team will then suggest solutions to address the bruxism, such as a custom-made night mouthguard.
Gingivitis and periodontitis can cause severe problems to a patient's teeth due to gum damaged. Irritated, bleeding, and weakened gums will lose their connections to the teeth, causing teeth to become loose, misaligned, or even to fall out completely. When a patient's teeth are misaligned upon waking, gum disease is a potential cause. Gingivitis can be cured if caught in time, but periodontitis is permanent and can only be treated. Patients who have bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, or tooth sensitivity in addition to their misaligned teeth should call our office immediately.
Teeth that suddenly move out of alignment can be a symptom of a larger, more severe problem. When you find your teeth are misaligned when you awaken, contact our office for a diagnostic exam. Our team can identify the problem and offer treatment plans to restore your teeths' alignment and address the underlying cause.
