CEREC Same Day Crowns
CEREC Same Day Crowns
What Are CEREC Crowns?
Short for Chairside Economic Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, CEREC crowns are similar to traditional crowns in that both are used to restore size, shape, and function to cracked, worn, discolored, misshapen, or otherwise damaged teeth, making the teeth stronger and improving their appearance. The two types also require the same level of care in order to preserve them and make them last as long as possible.
There are many differences between CEREC and traditional crowns, and the right type for you depends on many factors. One significant difference is the amount of time each takes to design, create, and place. While traditional crowns can take several weeks to prepare and require multiple office visits, CEREC crown placement is typically a same-day procedure. Rather than use the traditional messy molds or impressions, CEREC crowns implement the use of 3D technology to capture images and create a model of your mouth. It then uses the model to create a durable, high-quality, ceramic dental crown in minutes. Also, a CEREC crown looks even more natural than a normal crown.
Another difference between normal crowns and CEREC crowns is cost, with the latter tending to come with a higher price tag. This being said, it is important to note that while the upfront costs related to CEREC crowns are typically higher, CEREC crowns tend to be stronger than traditional crowns and can last longer. Also, the cost of the multiple office visits required with traditional crowns can add up fast.
What Can I Expect Of CEREC Crown Placement?
The entire CEREC crown placement procedure is typically completed in the matter of a few hours. The beginning steps in CEREC crown placement are similar to that of traditional crown placement. We begin by removing the outer portion of the tooth, along with any decay. We then will file it down to make room for the crown. We may also take x-rays to get a view below your gumline.
Next, we will use special 3D imaging software to capture images of the area being worked on. The images are then used to design a precise model of your mouth. A machine creates your crown relatively quickly using the model. The crown is then bonded or cemented in place in your mouth and polished to match the shade of your natural teeth. There is no need for a temporary crown or return visits as with traditional crowns.
If chipped, cracked, missing, or otherwise damaged teeth are keeping you from the bright, confident smile you desire, Lincoln Smiles can help you decide if a CEREC crown is right for you.
